The Faculty of Letters of the University of Coimbra is seeking to appoint a Full Time Lecturer in English Language (Leitor de Língua Inglesa), a non tenure-track position. This is a 1-year fixed-term appointment in English Language Teaching at the Section of Anglo-American Studies, Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures. The purpose of the post is to teach English Language Courses for the BA Degree in Modern Languages and students of other BA Programmes at the Faculdade de Letras. It is anticipated that the appointee will take up their post on 1 September
2019 and leave by the end of August 2020.
The postholder will be expected to provide 12 hours a week of undergraduate teaching per week. He/she will also have responsibility for preparing and correcting language examinations, written and oral (including diagnostic placement tests), will coordinate the curriculum with other language teachers and is also expected to contribute to the full range of departmental activities, including attending departmental meetings and
The successful candidate must be a native speaker of English or be bilingual in English and another language. He/she must hold an MA or a PhD in English with specialization in TEFL or an internationally recognised qualification in language teaching, and must have at least two years experience of undergraduate teaching and possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. He/she should also have a research and publication record appropriate to their career stage in English Language Teaching.
Candidates shortlisted for the interview will be asked to submit a sample of written work in advance of the interview.
Applications should include a CV, a supporting statement (letter of application), and two letters of recommendation about teaching ability, evidence of effective teaching at different levels of undergraduate students, adaptability to different environments and cultures.
