THE ‘OTHER’ BORDER: Canada and the United StatesPresident Trump’s election has drawn increased attention to the U.S.-Mexico border, but it has also resulted in changes on the northern U.S. border. In response to the need to theorize this relationship and its historical and evolving dimensions, IFUSS announces a new project: The ‘Other’ Border.
Up to 5 residential research Fellowships for scholars at all stages of career post-Ph.D., and who are located outside the U.S., are available during February-April of 2018. Perspectives from across the humanities, arts and social sciences are welcome.
Projects should explore contemporary or historical dimensions of the movement-or impediments to movement-of ideas, people, practices, and goods among and across the populations, state boundaries, or cultural imaginations of the two nations and the nations within their borders as well.
A public symposium will highlight the residency periods which may vary from a minimum of two to a maximum of six weeks on campus, but which must include the week of March 5 -10 when the symposium will be held (on March 8-10). Earliest arrival date possible is February 11, 2018.
Latest departure date is April 14, 2018.
IFUSS will provide Fellows with the following: campus office space, computer printer usage, economy round trip airfare, simple on campus housing for the duration of the stay, access to our world class library, connections with faculty and students across the campus, and limited administrative support. During Spring Break (March 17-25) Library hours will be limited (typically 8:30am-6pm, weekdays) and no administrative support will be available.
TO APPLY: Please send a 3 page project description and account of work currently done on the project, along with a C.V. and letter of application detailing desired dates, plus one sample of your scholarly work (published or in process, and of no more than 30 pages) to: Dr.
