Bio Note
Francesco Bacci is a PhD candidate in American Studies at the Graduate School of North
American Studies at the Freie Universität, Berlin. Francesco obtained a Bachelor’s and a
Master’s Degree in Languages, Cultures, and Literary Translation at the University of Macerata
with a dissertation titled “Essays and Short Stories: the Last Fitzgerald in-between Modernism
and Post-Modernism.” His recent publication is the essay “Black Lives Matter: Police Brutality,
Media and Injustice in The Hate U Give, Dear White People, and On the Other Side of Freedom”
(REDEN). He recently contributed to the volume African-American Activism and Political
Engagement: An Encyclopedia of Empowerment that will be published in 2022. He has published
articles in journals and magazines focused on cinema, literature, and related topics and has
presented at international conferences. His research is grounded in Black and Queer studies,
African American Literature, and Cinema. He is especially interested in the experiences and in
the fictional representation of students’ conditions on campuses and in academia, and in the
specific genre of the campus novel.
