A permanent position of Associate Professor of American Studies is available at the Department of Literature, Area Studies, and European Languages, University of Oslo. *Deadline: 1 June 2021*
• PhD or equivalent academic qualifications within American Studies or American History. Specialization within the field can be quite broad, encompassing people from departments other than American Studies or History, as long as the focus of the candidate’s research and teaching is on the United States from an historical or contemporary perspective and the candidate can participate in the teaching of our rotating courses. Those whose specialization is Literature will not be considered.
• The successful candidate will participate in teaching and advising theses in American History and Society in the Bachelor’s program in “English” and in the Master’s program in “English Literature, American and British Studies”, as well as contribute to PhD education in the section.
• The American and British Studies section has a set of courses in American history and politics at the bachelor level, and theory and methods courses at the master level, which rotate among the staff. The successful candidate should be able and willing to teach all of these courses. In addition, they will have the opportunity to create two MA-courses reflecting their own research interests. As a small section, there is a great need for someone willing and able to teach widely within American history, society, politics and culture. All teaching is in English.
