What, when & where
call for papers for the “2020 William Gilmore Simms Society Conference“, to be held in Sept ’20 on the campus of the University of South Carolina. The Simms Society is actively engaged in attempts at bringing new awareness to this important 19th-century author and encouraging new lines of critical inquiry into Simms, his work, and his world, including those perspectives that honestly wrestle with the many troubling aspects of his thought.
The conference also includes a student contest at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, should you have students interested in 19th century literature or the literature, culture, society, and/or politics of the Antebellum South.
Simms’s complete published works, his scrapbooks, some secondary resources, and other items related to Simms, are freely available at the Simms Initiatives:
http://simms.library.sc.edu/
