‘A Shake Down’: Reassessing the just-posthumous James
To mark the hundredth anniversary of the ‘Henry James Number’ of The Little Review (August 1918), papers are invited on any aspect of response to James’s life and writing in the decade immediately following his death. What might the Little Review’s eclectic, opinionated commemorative number (with contributions by Ezra Pound, T. S. Eliot, Theodora Bosanquet and others) have to offer to modern James criticism? What have been the legacies of other early assessments and interventions, critical, biographical or editorial? What has been forgotten or sidelined from this phase of his reception history?
