What: 2 PhD Research Fellowships in Political Science
Conditions: two vacant positions as PhD Research Fellow. The persons appointed may choose between a three year-appointment with no teaching requirement, or an appointment for a period of four years with a 25 per cent teaching requirement. In the Department of Political Science teaching is organized into five sections: public policy and administration, comparative politics, political theory, international politics, and research methods. Candidates will be part of the Faculty’s PhD programme and the work performed will be expected to lead to a PhD in Political Science. To be appointed to the position, the successful candidates must have a Master’s degree (120 ECTS) in Political Science. The Master’s degree must include a thesis of at least 30 ECTS, and training in research methodology. In evaluating applications, academic qualifications and the project outline will be given more weight than other disciplinary and general qualifications. Successful candidates must document top grades and an MA Thesis of the highest quality. Personal suitability will also be an important factor. Short-listed applicants will be called for interview.
When and where: University of Oslo – Department of Political Science. The Department of Political Science is a part of the Faculty of Social Sciences and conducts research, teaching and dissemination. The Department currently has 33 permanent academic staff members, 13 research fellows conducting PhDs, six assistant professors (postdoctoral fellows) and ten administrative employees. About 1100 students are currently enrolled in Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD study programmes in political science, as well as the interdisciplinary Bachelor’s degree programmes in International Studies and Public Administration and Leadership, and the Master’s degree programme in Peace and Conflict Studies. The department is the host of C-REX Center for Research on Extremism.

How to apply: Applicants must submit a project description of up to 3000 words outlining the research topic, the specific problems to be studied, the sources of data to be used, the choice of scientific theory and method, and a realistic schedule that details how the project will be completed within the fellowship period. - Copies of transcripts: All applicants must submit their Master’s degree Diploma and transcript(s), preferably together with a class distribution of grades. The transcript must specify the grade achieved on the Master’s thesis

- List of publications and academic work that the applicant wishes to be considered by the evaluation committee
- Please note: All documentation, the Master’s dissertation included, must be in English or in a Scandinavian language (or translated into English/Scandinavian by a certified translator).
